Nasty calculus question :( - Tangents

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

heheh tis simpler if you post specifics, thus we all can see if we can help =)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The diagram below shows part of a curve crossing the x-axis at the origin O and at the point a(8,0). Tangents to the curve at 0 and A meet at the point P, as shown |dw:1425858611757:dw| The curve as the equation \[y=12x-3x^{5/3}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Find the value of dy/dx at the point 0 and hence write down an equation to the tangent at 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(ii) Show that the equation of the tangent at A(8,0) is \[y+8x=64\]

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

"Find the value of dy/dx" what do you get here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For dy/dx I got \[12-4x^4 \]

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

idk how you got 4x^4

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

that part is incorrect

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I didn't think it was right myself!
