WILL MEDAL AND FAN!!! Which causes seismic waves? A. gravity in the mantle B. movements of the core C. convection in the mantle D. movements of the plates

@nincompoop @dan815

Miracrown (miracrown):

What do you think?

OpenStudy (sierra!):

Either B or D

Miracrown (miracrown):

This page gives you a quick over view of what a seismic wave is http://www.geo.mtu.edu/UPSeis/waves.html Sometimes it's best to look for the definition of terms then try to figure out answer from there

OpenStudy (sierra!):

I already looked at tat it didnt help me

Miracrown (miracrown):

''Seismic waves are the waves of energy caused by the sudden breaking of rock within the earth or an explosion. They are the energy that travels through the earth and is recorded on seismographs.'' ''There are several different kinds of seismic waves, and they all move in different ways. The two main types of waves are body waves and surface waves. Body waves can travel through the earth's inner layers, but surface waves can only move along the surface of the planet like ripples on water.'' ''The earth has four major layers: the inner core, outer core, mantle and crust. The crust and the top of the mantle make up a thin skin on the surface of our planet. But this skin is not all in one piece – it is made up of many pieces like a puzzle covering the surface of the earth. '' Reference: http://www.geo.mtu.edu/UPSeis/waves.html

Miracrown (miracrown):

The last post I put up talks about what causes earthquakes which are seismic waves so back to your question, can you see what the answer might be?

Miracrown (miracrown):

''The earth has four major layers: the inner core, outer core, mantle and crust. The crust and the top of the mantle make up a thin skin on the surface of our planet. But this skin is not all in one piece – it is made up of many pieces like a puzzle covering the surface of the earth.''

OpenStudy (sierra!):

STUMPED :'(

Miracrown (miracrown):

Ok, so basically the text is saying that there are these plates deep in the earth that fit together like puzzle pieces but the edges of the puzzle pieces are kinda rough

Miracrown (miracrown):

so they grind against each other and stick together (because they are rough) and won't slide smoothly

OpenStudy (sierra!):

Sooo D?

Miracrown (miracrown):

Yep

OpenStudy (sierra!):

this is a quiz with 15 questions not in the mood for it

Miracrown (miracrown):

so it's the movement of the plates that ultimately causes these seismic waves that can lead to earthquakes

Miracrown (miracrown):

Well, I say you deserve a rest! Take a rest, and come back when you're all fresh.

OpenStudy (sierra!):

i have to finish this test will you help me with the rest of the test

Miracrown (miracrown):

Oh, wait. Is this a test?

OpenStudy (sierra!):

quiz sorry

Miracrown (miracrown):

You're being assessed on it right? I am so extremely sorry but unfortunately we can't help users with test/exams - That is strongly prohibited according to the OS CoC.

OpenStudy (sierra!):

OMG thanks im gonna fail

Miracrown (miracrown):

Well, you should have studied beforehand.

OpenStudy (sierra!):

theres nothing to study

Miracrown (miracrown):

Huh? What do you mean? There is always something to study, without a doubt.
