OpenStudy (lxelle):

Differentiate -e^-x sinx + e^-x cosx

OpenStudy (lxelle):

Dy/dx = e^x cosx + e^-x cosx Is this right?

OpenStudy (thomas5267):

Nope. The computer does not agree.

OpenStudy (lxelle):

2(e^-x cosx)

OpenStudy (thomas5267):

You missed the negative sign.

OpenStudy (lxelle):

Whats the correct answer?

OpenStudy (thomas5267):

\(-2e^{-x}\cos(x)\)

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

thom is right. you need to use the product rule on each bit.

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

might be easier if you re-write as e^-x (cosx - sinx) but still should be doable both ways

OpenStudy (lxelle):

What is the working again?

OpenStudy (lxelle):

Differentiation of cosx is - sin x, no?

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

yes

OpenStudy (lxelle):

whats the working? I can't seem to be getting the negative.
