Why was the United States willing to pay more per mile for the Gadsden Purchase than for the Mexican Cession? A-The land may have been small, but it completed the state of Arizona. B-The United States wanted to prevent clashes along the southern border. C-The Gadsden Purchase gave the United States land to build a railroad. D-The United States paid more money to make amends with Mexico.

Mexicans wanted money to "reimburse" what the Native Americans had taken from them during the war. The U.S also wanted land to build a railroad. To compromise, the U.S and Mexico both agreed to the Gadsden purchase.
