A sponge and a bar of soap occupy the same amount of space, but the soap is much more dense than the sponge. Why might this be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because the soap is solid, get it? the sponge is full of holes. does that make sense?

OpenStudy (rayep12):

soap is hard and it shrinks as u use it. sponges can soak up water with its holes and it does not shrink
