WILL MEDAL!! [4.01] Find the value of x. A triangle drawn with a midsegment labeled x. The side parallel to the midsegment is labeled 60. (3 points) 40 10 20 30
help plz!
There is a theorem in Geometry, wich is called "mid-parallel segment" wich is quite useful when measuring mid-points in triangles. I'll try to state it as simple as I possibly can. "In any triangle ABC there exists two points M and N in such way that M=AB/2 and N=AC/2, the segment MN is half the lenght of the segment CB" So, let's say that in the triangle you posted, the top point is "A", so we can form a triangle ABC, and let's say, the segment "x" cuts the triangle ABC in "M" and "N" respectively. So, we can conclude, as an hypothesis, that M is the midpoint of AB and "N" the midpoint of AC. then the segment BC is 60 units. So applying the theorem I stated in the beginning, we say that MN=BC/2, wich means that x=60/2, concluding that x=30units
