OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the subject and predicate in The meeting began promptly at seven o'clock.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A subject is a person or thing that is being discussed, described, or dealt with. And a predicate is the part of a sentence containing a verb and stating something about the subject. So in this case; the 'meeting' is the thing being discussed so it is the subject. The word 'began' is the predicate.

OpenStudy (tjbrew):

A point of clarity...the predicate is everything that is not the subject. So the predicate is actually, "began promptly at seven o'clock."
