OpenStudy (anonymous):

A soccer ball is kicked with a velocity 8m/s at an angle of 23° what is the ball acceleration in the vertical direction as it flies through the air

OpenStudy (matt101):

The acceleration arises due to a force. There's only one force acting on ball as it flies through the air - gravity. The acceleration due to gravity is 9.8 m/s^2 downwards, so that's the acceleration of the ball in the vertical direction. Doesn't matter what speed it's travelling at!
