The cost to take pictures at a school dance is $200 for the photographer and $3 per print. The dance committee plans to charge $5 per print. Write an equation that represents the cost & income for each situation. What is the break even point?

The $200 is the fix cost so that wont change regardless of the number of pictures taken. A cost of $3 per print, so giving the print variable (p) and an income of $5 per print giving using the same variable (p) as they are the same variable (e.i. the number of prints will be the $3 is just the cost and $5 is just the income) Can you come up with the equation from this?
print=x 5x+200=cost good so far?
Excellent! 5x is the income but 200 is the cost which would be subtracted from the income. Look at it from the schools point of view they are paying $200
You are almost at the right equation.
5x+3=5x
right?
Not exactly, back track to the first equation you had, and look at it from the schools point of view they are paying $200, so its not 5x+200..
its 3x+200.
If they are paying the money then its a negative number. Think of when you had to pay for something do you have more or less money in your bank account. If you had to pay 200 for hiring a photographer your bank account would be debited -$200
