after september 2 1949both the united states and soviet union had atomic weapons that they could use in a war against each other. Analyze the progress of the cold war and the relationship between the two countries. Please help me

Well, the US begins to fear communism and adopts a policy of containment-doing whatever it takes to prevent communism from spreading, even going to war. Which we end up doing. The Korean war was a war between the communist north and democratic south, and the north begins to invade so we have to come help because of our policy. These conflicting ideologies (democracy and communism) increased tensions between the 2 countries. Because of the increase in tensions, we join NATO which a military alliance so if the soviet union did attack, we would have countries to back us up. The soviet union feels like they need an alliance too, so they create the Warsaw Pact. Now there are 2 alliances and this makes things very very tense because 1 little conflict could set off WW3. (one small country in the alliance attacks another small country in the other alliance, all the other countries in their alliance have to come back them up and then there would be a full out war).
