What is the distance from Mac’s original location to the first city, and from the first city to the second city?

we know that both distances, "a" and "b", add up to 320
thus

we also know that distance to "first city" from original location is
"20 miles more than half the distance from the first to the second city."

that is whatever "b" distance is divided by 2, + 20
or \(\large {\color{brown}{ a}}=\cfrac{b}{2}+20\)

thus is a system of equations, you could just solve by substitition
