When Tyson opens and lays a cereal box out flat, he sees that the top and the bottom of the box both measure 11 inches by 8 inches, the sides of the box both measure 11 inches by 6 inches, and the front and back of the box both measure 8 inches by 6 inches. What is the surface area of Tyson’s cereal box? (1 point) 404 in.2 228 in.2 202 in.2 308 in.2

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

When you find the surface area of a figure, what you need to do is find the area of all sides and then add the areas together. So lets start with the top and bottom. \[11\times8\]What do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

88

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

Right. The other side is going to have an area of 88, too. So you can either add \[88+88\]Or you can multiply \[88\times2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is what

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how i did it i got 404 as my answer is that correct

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

You're right :). Like I said before, when you want to find the surface area of something, find the area of all the sides and then add those areas together. So \[404 inches ^{2}\]

ok thanks!

You're welcome.
