You want to build a dog house in the middle of a rectangular plot of land. The dog house measures 3x by 6x and the plot of land will be 9x by 12x. How much land will be left for the dog to run around?

Find the area of the land and the area of the base of the dog house. Subtract the area of the base of the dog house from the area of the land to obtain the area remaining.
