American prisoners of war try to conceal the true meanings of their conversations from their captors by using ___ expressions such as, "He kicked the bucket." A. encyclopedic B. feint C. figurative D. rote
Any ideas? @7thGrader?
Encyclopedic: comprehensive in terms of information. Feint: make a deceptive or distracting movement, typically during a fight. Figurative: departing from a literal use of words; metaphorical. Rote: mechanical or habitual repetition of something to be learned.
I would have to say, that the bucket was metaphorically kicked. It is just an expression and not used literally.
