Help with planning strategies for trig functions

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

What would be the best first step in verifying the following identity? sec θ − sec θ sin^2θ = cos θ

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

My choices are: Start with the left side of the equation by dividing it by sin2θ. Start with the left side of the equation by factoring it. Start with the right side of the equation by multiplying it by secθ. Start with the left side of the equation by dividing both sides by cos. I believe is would be start with the left side by factoring.

OpenStudy (freckles):

i believe sir you are correct :) because you would have sec(x)(1-sin^2(x))

OpenStudy (freckles):

and 1-sin^2(x)=?

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

cos^2(x)?

OpenStudy (freckles):

yeah! so you would sec(x)*cos^2(x) which is cos(x) since sec(x)=1/cos(x)

Thank you!
