Describe what happens when a keystone species is removed from a population. 2 points.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@epicpanda The term "keystone" comes for the rock at the center of roman style arches. If you remove this rock, the keystone, the entire arch will collapse. Does that help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mrdoldum a little bit, but this is about species not rocks .-. I'm working on ecology at the moment.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@epicpanda I know, and in ecology the term "keystone" species is used in the exact same way. A "keystone" species is a species that if removed would cause the collapse of the local ecosystem. Thus the direct conceptual link.

@mrdoldum thank you so much
