Which of the following conditions creates the largest waves? A. slow-moving wind over smooth water B. slow-moving wind over choppy water C. fast-moving wind over smooth water D. fast-moving wind over choppy water

OpenStudy (godmod360):

c.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think its D

OpenStudy (godmod360):

Waves are created when wind blows against the ocean far out at see and this energy is transferred into the water to create a wave, which is the passage of energy through a liquid medium, thus fast means more energy, but the reason that smooth water will create a larger wave is due to the fact that there is greater surface area to absorb this energy thus more is transferred as opposed to choppy water

OpenStudy (godmod360):

sea*

c is incorrect but thank you so much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (godmod360):

oh well lol i guess i thought about that one to much lol

OpenStudy (godmod360):

sorry!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem lol

OpenStudy (dominantvampire):

The Three Wind Components Used to Measure and Create Big Waves: Wind Speed – how fast the wind is blowing over the ocean Fetch – the size of the expanse of water that the wind is blowing over Duration – how long the wind is blowing over the ocean in one particular direction D is the correct option
