Nnesha (nnesha):

x = time y = velocity

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes I need help creating equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

standard form = Ax + By = C

Nnesha (nnesha):

make two order pair (x,y)(x,y)

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes use that data to find slope time represent x values y represent velocity

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(2, 54) and (4, 58)

Nnesha (nnesha):

yep :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok give me a sec to calculate slope

Nnesha (nnesha):

:-) okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

slope is 2? (58-54)/(4-2) 4/2 2

Nnesha (nnesha):

yep right so slope is 2 y = mx + b where m is slope which is 2 y = 2x +b use one of order pair and substitute x and y values into the equation then solve for b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

54 = 2(2) + b or 58 2(4) + b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

forgot the = sign on the second one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am choosing the first one so do I solve for B?

Nnesha (nnesha):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok 52 = 2(2) + b 52 = 4 + b 52 + -4 = 4 + b + -4 48 = b

Nnesha (nnesha):

52 ? :O

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh whoops

OpenStudy (anonymous):

54 haha let me redo that

Nnesha (nnesha):

okay :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

54 = 2(2) + b 54 = 4 + b 54 + -4 = 4 + b + -4 50 = b

Nnesha (nnesha):

yep right so equation in slope intercept form is y =2x + 50 now subtract 2x both side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y = 2x + 50 y - 2x = 2x + 50 -2x y - 2x = 50

Nnesha (nnesha):

yep -2x + y =50 x comes first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, so that is my equation for both or just one?

Nnesha (nnesha):

what do you mean both ?? or one ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha nvm confused myself for a second

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so that's it for part 1 besides defining the variables

Nnesha (nnesha):

part ONE = DONE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay let me see if I can do part 2 tell me if it is good give me a sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To find this out, we first change our equation to slope-intercept form. -2x + y = 50 -2x + y + 2x = 50 + 2x y = 2x + 50 Now, since we got that done, we plot our y-intercept, 50. Now from this point, we go up 2 units then right 1 unit since our slope is 2. That is our next point and also the first our. We do this 6 more times and that's the first 6 hours.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How can you graph the equation obtained in Part A for the first six hours?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or do I need to plug in 6 in the equations somewhere?

Nnesha (nnesha):

like you have to keep doing this (up 2 right one ) until 6 h

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so my answer is right

Nnesha (nnesha):

for y -intercept just write (0 , 50) just to explain a little bit more that y-intercept on y-axis when x =0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah understandable

Nnesha (nnesha):

y-intercept is always on y-axisss when x =0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup

Nnesha (nnesha):

yep _-_ :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that was a lot easier than expected

Nnesha (nnesha):

|dw:1426210340710:dw|something like this :D
