Ok this spamming is really getting annoying people putting inappropriate comments in chat and spamming with advertisement (if you know what im talking about) too
Suggestion: Keep a spam filter.
so like if someone writes a certain amount of words on going constantly and keeps spamming with them in under a minute they automatically have to wait 15 minutes or so till they can type again (this also can take away the need for ambi's to have power) i dunno if this makes sense if it doesn't tell me i'll try to clarify a bit more =) note:for a community ban you need a certain amount of people which is hard to find at times so this can help too

In the past there have been many chat room suggestions, i have made a few that got a lot of recognition. But the only reason spam and trolls come on and do there thing, is because were giving them attention. Were feeding the fire just ignore them and lol them, they will be like what the ham did this weenie say. Laughing with them not at them will kind of make them like you. Then you will gain there friendship and possibly show them the light. It worked for me a few times.

Also a wait time is nice. Like 1 message per 3 seconds.

I just read the main post, but I didn't read the other comments here because some of them are like out of the topic. Anyway, there are plenty suggestions that have been suggested before about preventing spams in chat.

1. Only people who have high SS can use the chat, but it deteriorates the idea of posting link questions when no one is helping the asker.

2. Putting a character limit in the chat-but it won't work because spammers can still spam with only few characters

3. Putting a time limit like what pooja is suggesting. The cons for this is that, no one can actually talk properly or react to previous chat messages quickly if this happens.

The best suggestion so far for me is to delete the chat boxes and only put one main chat box, so that mods can easily monitor it.
