(WARNING! NOT A QUESTION!) The difference between "literally" and "figuratively."

Recently, it has come to my understanding that we as Americans tend to miss-use the English language. Sometimes we say "your" instead of "you're" or "defiantly" instead of "definitely" (Seriously. How did people even mix that up in the first place?) and while they are all incorrect, and annoy me oh so much. There is a king of all this garbage. The miss-use of "literally."

These people LITERALLY drive me insane! See how I used "literally" instead of "figuratively" or "virtually?" You won't believe how much I cringed when I wrote that, even if it was an example. To stop using this word in such a distasteful manner (in my opinion) here are some examples of good uses and bad uses.

Good uses:

"You are literally barking up the wrong tree." (One tree to another.)

"I am literally ahead of time." (A person who left his watch directly behind him.)

"These bombs are to die for!" (Self-explanatory.)

Bad uses:

"Dude! Have you seen that new Vince Vaughn movie? I literally died of laughter!" (Then how did you come back from the dead to say this?)

"Jason literally broke my heart." (Again. How did you come back from the dead to say this?)

"I haven't been to the doctor in literally 100 years." (So you somehow developed a time machine and traveled 100 years into the future JUST to say this? Either that or you have some magnificent anti-aging cream right there.)

I know my opinion probably doesn't matter, but it would really help if people stopped doing this so often.

@KyanTheDoodle omg, u r awesome :D. my sis uses literally ALL the time in the wrong ways, and it drives me crazy. she says, for instance, that she will literally die if i don't lend her my goggles, computer game, water bottle, etc. i'm like, no, u won't die, u will just be unhappy. anyway, thanks for that awesome explanation ;)
