the constant variation in a quadratic is the second variation (so the variation of the variation of the terms)

if you want to avoid mathematical calculations with variables, just build a table of 4-5 values (plug in x and check y). then make a table of x_{i+1}-x_{i} (or the difference between two nearest values of y with respect to x). then you build another table to check the variation of the variation. this will be constant
