Analyzing the Development of a Story So for my English midterm, we are to choose one of the stories we read and then do the following. Write an essay in which you analyze and evaluate the development of a fiction story from the readings. Poetry or nonfiction will not work for this assignment. Explain which story you chose and briefly summarize the plot. Identify key choices the author made in writing the story. For example, consider where the story is set, how the action is ordered, or how the characters are introduced and developed.

Analyze the impact of the author’s choices, discussing how these decisions affect both the story’s meaning and the reader’s experience. Organize your ideas so that each new idea builds on the one it follows to create a unified whole. I just need help understanding what the directions are asking. What does it mean by key choices the author made in writing the story? If you can give an example that would be great. Thank you.

OpenStudy (love_ranaa):

Key choices are things that are important like antagonist and protagonist, their flaws and fears, character traits or things like that

OpenStudy (love_ranaa):

The directions are asking you to see what decisions the author made in his writing and discuss how those choice influence or make a difference in the story You also are supposed to break down the devolopment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The author of the story had a similar experience to the main character. Can I talk about how that that added more detail and feeling for the reader? Would that make sense?

OpenStudy (love_ranaa):

Right. That would be a good thing to put in and it makes sense.

Ok thanks. Would talking about the author's choice to use different types of irony be something I can include?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Love_Ranaa Would talking about irony be ok?

OpenStudy (love_ranaa):

If the writer uses irony and you're trying to show how it affect the writing, then sure.

Ok thanks for all your help!
