A crater shaped like a cone has a height of 24 yd and a diameter of 72 yd. What is the volume of the crater? Use 3.14 to approximate pi and express your final answer in hundredths _________yd^3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The volume is 32572.03

OpenStudy (anonymous):

explain please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I plugged it into the formula for a cone, which is (pi)(r)^2(h/3) and solved. The height is 24, and I divided 72 by 2 and got 36 to plug into the radius. (Diameter is 2 times radius)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

don't you do something like this diameter/n2 the diameter is 72 so plug that in and divide and that wll be your radius?

@1289florida

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The formula for a right circular cone is πr^2(h/3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pi(r)^2(h/3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all i see is question marks o.o

I honestly have no clue. Sorry :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its okay thanx anyway

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're welcome, wish I could help !

Plug the values into this calculator, but plug 36 into the radius, not 72 b/c that is the diameter. https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&rlz=1C1GGGE_enUS416&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=formula+for+a+cone

so the answer would be 21714.69? @1289florida
