system of equations with circles help? will medal

OpenStudy (jessicawade):

I need some help solving some problems, it calls for step by step instructions. I ask this so i can see and learn from what has been taught to me. If you can help then Thank you!! Solve the following systems of a circle and a line by finding the intersection point(s) if any algebraically. 2.{ 2x+y=15 (x-2)^2+(y-1)^2=25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can solve for y with the line, and insert that into the equation for the circle. Then solve for x. 2x+y=15 y=15-2x

OpenStudy (welshfella):

take the first equation and find the value of y in terms of x then plug this value instead of x in the second equation this will give you an equation in x which you can solve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x-2)^2 + ((15-2x)-1)^2 = 25 you will need to expand the first term and simplify and expand the second term. Then solve for x

OpenStudy (welshfella):

this will give you 2 values for x then finally plug this value into the first equation to find the 2 corresponding values of y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The x that you will get will be the x piece of the (x, y) coordinate of the intersection point. you can choose which equation to solve for y with, but it is easier to use the line equation.

OpenStudy (jessicawade):

Ok im just now learning this, i got the points 5,5 and 7,1 using a calculator but i want to know how to find it

OpenStudy (jessicawade):

which im pretty sure just happend
