OpenStudy (tylerd):

A tank contains 60 kg of salt and 2000 L of water. A solution of a concentration 0.015 kg of salt per liter enters a tank at the rate 8 L/min. The solution is mixed and drains from the tank at the same rate. Let y be the number of kg of salt in the tank after t minutes. Write the differential equation for this situation

OpenStudy (kainui):

Show me your best attempt at it and I'll help you figure it out.

OpenStudy (tylerd):

well i figure y=60+0.12t but theres a limit, since it cant be above 2000 liters

OpenStudy (tylerd):

i dont even know where to start really

OpenStudy (tylerd):

i dunno

OpenStudy (kainui):

I find it helps to go through the problem and try to list out each quantity. Give it a variable name, value, and units. So for example the first two you might choose to be\[\large Q=60 \text{ kg of salt }\\ \large V =2000 \text{ L of water}\] Continue with that and as you go you should try to draw a picture and label as much as possible and write any equations you can relating them together. This will be kind of challenging but that's ok. The fact that there is only 2000L in the tank as a limit is also a good point to keep in mind.

OpenStudy (tylerd):

alright, **** it, ill solve it myself lol, thanks though
