Large parts of the Amazon rainforest have been clear cut to grow crops. Why should we care?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

- We can predict that food shortage rate can increase, because the plants photosynthesise, producing essential nutrients for the food chain; - Plants help balancing the CO2 content, responsabile to trap heat in the atmosphere, contributing to the increase in temperature and consequent Global Warming; - With less plants, there is less probability in absorbing or infiltrating input water, easying the water overland flow, leading to floods; - Plants serve as a huge resource required in industries of the categories of food, rubber, laboratories, genetic engineering and all, contributing to the decadence of these as well as the economic growth. - without replanting them, ther will be lack in wood for furniture and fuel.
