Yes, hepatitis A is quite contagious. It is mostly transmitted through fecal matter, which is why they suggest you use a seat cover when using public bathrooms. 
Its easier to contract hepatitis A than is hepatitis B and C, which is transmitted in a similar fashion as STD's.
