OpenStudy (yellowlegoguy99):

Can I get a reason why there are chats (reasons that are facts)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol there aren't any.

OpenStudy (yellowlegoguy99):

There are actually many reasons why there are chats, but notice what I put in quotations. ;)

pooja195 (pooja195):

Chats are there to discuss academic achievements and post links to your question so that you can get help however there are people who abuse this...

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Also, the chats are for a breather when one wants to take a break from answering questions. Or vice versa, a person that wants to take a break from asking questions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Further, it is a way to to attract people to use the site and to know other people who are using the site.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

True, but that also attracts trolls. :'(

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Chats are also for keeping non-studying out of the forums.

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

Chats are for anything that doesn't fit in a post.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Chats are for talking with other users and getting to make more friends. Chats are for promoting a question in a subject that isn't as lively as math to get help faster. Chats are for seeing which user just asked their first question. Chats are for welcoming the new users who comein to the chat. Chats are for answering simple questions that new users have about OpenStudy. Chats are vital to OpenStudy.

OpenStudy (yellowlegoguy99):

No one looks at the questions in the chat boxes (too busy socializing) That pretty much covers it all up.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

There are many here ONLY to socialize. You can look at their detailed profiles. You will see very few questions posted or answered - a large number of fans. New posts do show up in the chats. The intent is to elicit some sort of response. Sadly, the socializers don't see it that way.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

The original development idea behind adding chats was to support the social aspects of this sort of forum. They were very close to removal a few times sue to abuse and are regularly reccomended by users for removal or modification.
