Solve 3x^2 + x + 10 = 0. Round solutions to the nearest hundredth. (4 points) x ≈ -2.83 and x ≈ 0.83 No real solutions x ≈ -2.01 and x ≈ 1.67 x ≈ -1.67 and x ≈ 2.01

OpenStudy (misty1212):

HI!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If their is dimond ?'s just refresh(:

OpenStudy (misty1212):

looks like a job for the quadratic formula do you know it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hii(: and no :/

OpenStudy (misty1212):

then you can't do it !

OpenStudy (misty1212):

the solution to \[ax^2+bx+c=0\] is \[x=\frac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}\]

OpenStudy (misty1212):

in your case \(a=3,b=1,c=10\) plug them in and use a calculator because they want the decimal approximation

OpenStudy (misty1212):

onoh since you have to use a calculator anyways, you might as well cheat and use it from the start http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=3x%5E2+%2B+x+%2B+10+%3D+0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. what part on there Should I be looking at?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@misty1212

OpenStudy (misty1212):

you can see that the graph lies entirely above the x axis that means it never crosses or touches the x axis that means it is never zero no solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thaank you.
