Please Explain what happens to energy and matter during a chemical reaction.

depending upon the reaction, energy can be added or removed from the reaction. it also depends upon the type of chemical reaction. in general, bonds breaking requires energy input while bonds forming = energy release.
matter is never created or destroyed during any chemical reaction except for nuclear reactions when mass can be converted to energy or vice versa
