What are crude oil and petroleum made from? A. Small marine organisms B. Small land-based organisms C. Compressed rock and sediment D. plants

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@TheSmartOne

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@YOLO_KING

OpenStudy (yolo_king):

What do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B or C

OpenStudy (yolo_king):

Do you know the difference from crude oil?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not exactly :\

OpenStudy (yolo_king):

Crude oil is petroleum but it is raw or unprocessed form of petroleum.

OpenStudy (yolo_king):

So petroleum just has some added elements to it, any who, Petroleum and crude oil are made out of fossil fuels, Do you know what fossil Fuels are made of?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Fossil Fuels are made out of Carbon

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(Am I correct on that?)

OpenStudy (yolo_king):

That is correct but it is not the answer heres why V "Carbon - 84% Hydrogen - 14% Sulfur - 1 to 3% (hydrogen sulfide, sulfides, disulfides, elemental sulfur) Nitrogen - less than 1% (basic compounds with amine groups) Oxygen - less than 1% (found in organic compounds such as carbon dioxide, phenols, ketones, carboxylic acids) Metals - less than 1% (nickel, iron, vanadium, copper, arsenic) Salts - less than 1% (sodium chloride, magnesium chloride, calcium chloride)"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it's not fully made out of carbon?

OpenStudy (yolo_king):

Exactly

OpenStudy (yolo_king):

All of these components are fossil fuels that make up petroleum and crude oil. But all these substances are made up of naturally decaying animals and plants.

OpenStudy (yolo_king):

It took millions of years for these things to decompose and be made into fossil fuels.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I see

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, it would be B?

OpenStudy (yolo_king):

Thats why there called Fossil- Fuels there pretty much fossils that are made into fuel

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like the tiny organs, etc, it looks like it's land based

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait, is it harmful to the environment to obtain a fossil fuel?

OpenStudy (yolo_king):

I would go with A because these fossil fuels are extracted from the sea.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh? I didn't realize from the sea xd

OpenStudy (yolo_king):

:P and yes fossil fuels are harmful to the environment.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So Fossil fuels are easy to get and use, but they take a long time to re-form? Is what you're saying?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry, I am a terrible Student

OpenStudy (yolo_king):

Yes they are very easy to find :) but they do take millions of years to form.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And they also give us energy for electricity?

OpenStudy (yolo_king):

mhmmm :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cause they are fuels, so why wouldn't they?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can I post my other question on here, or should I just repost a different question?

OpenStudy (yolo_king):

Fossil fuels are generally made into gas, oil and coal and so these three components especially coal are used to power turbines to make energy.

OpenStudy (yolo_king):

Re post would be best :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok
