in the sentece ''the dog is in the closet where i put my clothes". what does 'where i put my clothes' modify and why

OpenStudy (anonymous):

closet, because "where I put my clothes" is a phrase... a prepositional phrase? Regardless, it's one that specifies that the closet is a place where "I", the subject, either "put, in a perfect past phrasing the "clothes" OR puts clothes into the closet in a general, probably habitual, continuous sense.
