Mystery settings often include one closed location. Why? For example, why would an author place an entire story and all the story's characters in a house?

Think of this as the game clue. closed setting: the house. If the mystery was a murder mystery, the reader would know one of the characters in the house did it. it helps with suspense. if it was something else, the solidity of a closed setting makes the appearance that no one is around to help a character, etc.
