solve for X

OpenStudy (sierra!):

\[\frac{ x }{ 6 } = 5\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }\]

Okay, first step would be to simplify the right side of the equation. Do you know how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@sierra!

OpenStudy (sierra!):

No?

OpenStudy (sierra!):

wait yes i do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you multiply the "base" of the fraction by 5. (2 * 5) to get 10. Then you add the "roof" of the fraction to 10. That is 11. Then keep the original base. so now you have 11/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not multiply 11/2 and 6. Why? you are trying to get x by itself, so nothing can by with X. So multiply the 6 to get it out of the fraction bar. Now you have x = 11/2 * 6.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Put 6 over 1 (6/1) and multiply it by 11/2. That gives you 66/2. Now simplify and you get 33. :) Make sense?

OpenStudy (sierra!):

yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay then! :)
