never mind i got it the answer is It is a measure of how bright a star actually is, as opposed to how bright it appears - it removes distance from the equation. Absolute magnitude uses the same scale as apparent magnitude but it is an abstract figure, calculated as the apparent magnitude if the star was ten parsecs away.
