Smallside Farms sells Delicious and Empire apples. One August they sold 162 more Empire than Delicious apples. The total number of apples sold was 424. Which equation could be used to solve for n, the number of Delicious apples sold? a)2n+162=424 b)2n-162=424 c)n+162=424 d)n-162=424

OpenStudy (jojokiw3):

Okay so what you have here are 3 numbers. The first one is the number of empire apples sold. Which is 162. The second is 424. The third is unknown, but it's the number of delicious apples sold. Since the farm sold a total of 424 and 162 empire apples are included already, how do you think you'll find out how many delicious apples are sold?

OpenStudy (jesuslover11):

+ing?

OpenStudy (jojokiw3):

OpenStudy (jojokiw3):

Correct, for this question. :) But do you know how to go on from there? Say you need to find the number of delicious apples?

OpenStudy (jesuslover11):

OpenStudy (jojokiw3):
