What is the equation of a parabola whose focus is (–4, –1) and whose directrix is y = –5?

OpenStudy (thatonegirl_):

since the directrix is y= then your parabola will be x^2=, got that part?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

@Thatonegirl_

OpenStudy (thatonegirl_):

okay so you're going to have to shift the graph -4 horizontally because the focus for and x^2 equation is (0,y). And since it is -4 in the coordinate you need to have a -4, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i understand that :D and?? @Thatonegirl_

OpenStudy (thatonegirl_):

Yeah that's the most i can remember.. Sorry it's been awhile >.<
