What is an extended metaphor?
Extended metaphors are exactly like what the name sounds like; a metaphor that has been extended. A perfect example of this is Shakespeare sonnet 18. It is the east, and Juliet is the sun. Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon, Who is already sick and pale with grief, That thou her maid art far more fair than she: Be not her maid, since she is envious; Her vestal livery is but sick and green And none but fools do wear it; cast it off. It's a metaphor for the summer. This is considered an extended metaphor because it isn't simply a phrase containing a metaphor, but a single metaphor/analogy exploited through linked vehicles.
Sorry that was from Romeo and Juliet xD
