For example, the interval notation (2, 5) means all real numbers greater than 2 and less than 5, but not including 2 or 5. One simple symbol means so much! Now think about other symbols you have used. What examples of symbols can you think of? Provide at least two examples. One should be mathematical and the other can be from daily life. Explain the meaning of the symbol and why the symbol is useful. Pretend you are explaining to someone who has never seen these symbols before.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Hello Miss Alexiss :) What are you having trouble with here?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

To find a symbol from daily life, I would try to think of a traffic symbol that doesn't use words, and explain what it means. You could think of a lot of different stuff for that one.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

For another mathematical symbol, would you be able to explain what this means?\[\Large\rm x\gt5\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

X is greater then 5 ..

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Yes, x is the set of all real numbers greater than, but not equal to, 5! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so umm .. Its say I'm suppost to think of daily symbol .. So like @ or $ ! or ? or . something like that ?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Those are symbols that YOU are likely to have used, so yah those seems like great examples.
