Heat that flows by conduction is the transfer of thermal energy between substances in contact. What must occur for this to happen? A)The two systems must be the same temperature. B)The two systems must not be touching each another. C)One system must have higher kinetic energy than the other system. D)The thermal energy of one system must be the same as the thermal energy of the other system.

https://web.phys.ksu.edu/fascination/Chapter11.pdf fireplace in winter, we must understand the processes by which thermal en- ergy is transferred ... the transfer actually occurs. in this chapter we look at the three transfer ... One method of transferring thermal energy is to heat a substance and then ... a gravitational force due to the earth-balloon interaction and a contact force

thank you!

OpenStudy (academicgurusinc):

Option C is correct because kinetic energy is a measure of temperature of a substance. The difference in K.E means difference in temperature and thus assures the flow of heat energy from hot to cold body. I hope that helps.
