i need help under standing diffrent types of figurative language

Simile, metaphor, metonymy, synecdoche, personification, are all forms of figurative language. Simile = That rock was as big as the empire state building. (Comparing) Metaphor = Her eyes were like diamonds. (Saying another word for more detail) Metonymy = Dish, for an entire plate of food (Saying something closely to that word) Synecdoche = The word “sails” is often used to refer to a whole ship. (Saying something that is part of something to represent the whole thing.) Personification = Lightning danced across the sky. (Add interest into the story like a peom does)
