What are the coordinates of the image of point K(1, 3) after a reflection over the line y = –1? A(1, –3) B(–3, 3) C(0, 3) D(1, –5)

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

First step. Find out how far point (1,3) is from line y = -1. Hint: You can graph it, or you can use the y-value of the coord to find out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know how to do that

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

Take the y-value (3) and subtract the reflection from it to find the distance between them. Make sure to take the absolute value, since there is no such thing as negative distance. |3 - (-1)| = |3 + 1| = 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it would be 1,4?

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

So 4 is the distance between the point and the reflection line. That means that there has to be a distance of 4 between the reflection line and the reflected point. So, to find the reflection line, add 4(2) to the y-value of the original coord (1,3)

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

no, it wouldn't be (1,4) Do this: (1,3 + 4(2)) --> (1, 3 + 8) --> (1, ?) Can you tell me what the reflected coord is?
