Comparisons involve saying ... More than ...., but after the 'more than', it is to compare with a person , but never with EVERYBODY, which is what happens from B to D. For instance, the correct way for C should be : Howard collected more merit badges at the camp more than Antonia did. Not more than'EVERYBODY'. When you compare with everybody, it is superlative. And when it is grammatically written, you do not even need to use everybody. Follow the following example: Howard collected the HIGHEST number of merit badges. Now the alternative A is correct, because the COMPARISON is well written.
