what should a person look for when selecting RAM? why? (ram means random access memory its a computer thing

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Well, what do you think is important for geting the proper RAM for a computer? Then, what do you think is optional and might be important?

OpenStudy (rsmith6559):

On the rare occasions that I buy RAM, I go to the computer's manufacturer and get it. It's more expensive, but they know what their machine needs, and I don't have to spend time researching it. The saving of my time usually offsets the price difference.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

I think from the form of the question this is an academic exercise and not a practical one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well it depends on what you need the RAM for. For example, say i was building a gaming computer, and the the games i want to play require over 2 GB of RAM, so i would go with a RAM set that is required. So the point is just find the right RAM that suits whatever you need it for.Hope this somewhat helps :)
