Please help! @aaronq @iambatman @confluxepic @e.mccormick @sendrix http://prntscr.com/6itwd7

OpenStudy (domebotnos):

its there...

OpenStudy (domebotnos):

http://prntscr.com/6itwd7

OpenStudy (domebotnos):

i have x+10=y

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

If we call them e and a for elec and acous, what do you think the equations will be?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Well, that works too. So x is electric and y accoustinc.

OpenStudy (domebotnos):

e+a=the total amount practiced which is 70 minuets

OpenStudy (domebotnos):

yes sir or ma'am ...

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

So yah: x+y=70 e+a=70... whichever works. I just like the e a cause it is less chance of using the wrong var. e+10=a So there you go. Two equations.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Or wait... 10 min more on electric... I did that last bit wrong! a+10 = e!

OpenStudy (domebotnos):

yeah! thats it for part A

OpenStudy (domebotnos):

now onto part b

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

e+a=70 a+10 = e OK, so do you know how to solve those? I suggest substitution since it is already set up.

OpenStudy (domebotnos):

yeah

OpenStudy (domebotnos):

so i have to, not really..

OpenStudy (domebotnos):

not sure

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

OK. Well, you know what e is in terms of a. You have it there. e=a+10. So, in the other equation, replace e with (a+10) and then solve that for a.

OpenStudy (domebotnos):

how would i solve for a? im reall lost :/

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Just like you would solve for any variable. When you do the substitution part, what do you get?

OpenStudy (domebotnos):

im so lost...

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

If I have x=2y and x+y=5 then I can replace x with 2y: x+y=5 becomes 2y+y=5 You can do the same sort of thing in yours. e+a=70 a+10 = e which also means e=a+10 You have a solution for e in terms of a. That is what they call it in mathematics. So replace e in the other equation with (a+10) and what do you get?

OpenStudy (domebotnos):

OK give me a couple mins...
