C is also really close, but some people are suicidal over acute problems, so it doesn't have to be overtime.

The reason it is not C is because not all people who commit suicide have had a long history of emotional problems. For example, someone could be very happy their whole lives, and then maybe one day something in their life hurts them and they become severely depressed, leading them to suicide in order to escape the issue, or another reason.
As someone who works in a mental health facility, I experience this a lot with patients.
