To play chess, you must learn how the different pieces move on the board. First, the pieces are split into light and dark pieces. The white pieces move first. Pawns may move one or two spaces on their first move but after that may only move forward one space at a time. They usually move first. They are important pieces but are usually considered the least powerful.
Players take turns moving their pieces. They try to capture the other player’s pieces. When a player has trapped the other player’s king, it is called “Checkmate,” and the game is over.
