I need help with my German Journal assignment please!
After reciting the poem, you may have noticed that traditional German fairy tales and stories vary from what we’d expect. Although you might know that an "elf" is a mythological creation of German origin, did you also know that they were typically thought of as evil or mean-spirited creatures? In fact, the old original German fairy tales are often darker and more tragic than their modern American versions. Explain why there is a difference between the old and modern versions. Although there are differences, why are some fairy tales still relevant three centuries later?
You can relate this to some Western versions of fairytales. When pondering why there is a difference between old and modern versions, recall how fairytales used to be spread: by mouth, usually. That means that the fairytales were subject to change based on speaker preference, and over time, they were altered. They could also be affected by changing cultural customs of countries as they became modernized. Think about that. For question two: what do fairytales often teach? Why would what they teach be important, keeping in mind the typical audience for fairytales (children)?
