OpenStudy (countryalltheway):

@StudyGurl14 8x = 2y + 5 3x = y + 7 Solve the system of equations by substitution. (-9/2, -41/2) (-1, -9/2) no solution coincident

OpenStudy (countryalltheway):

i dont get these at all

OpenStudy (countryalltheway):

i think A or C

OpenStudy (countryalltheway):

@Data_LG2 can u please help me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do elimination method. do you know how to do that? 8x = 2y + 5 -> eqn 1 3x = y + 7 -> eqn 2 I'll give you the steps, and i want you to show me that you are following it okay? 1. multiply eqn by -2 to eliminate y 2. add the new equation to eqn 1 3. simplify and solve for x

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

Sorry, I have to go. My mom’s yelling at me to get my own homework done.

OpenStudy (jordan123321):

what do you think

OpenStudy (countryalltheway):

i dont know how to do any of this stuff

OpenStudy (countryalltheway):

NOPE I AM DUM AT THIS STUFF

OpenStudy (countryalltheway):

can someone just tell me the answer

OpenStudy (ybarrap):

I am going to give you the answer. This is how. $$ 8x = 2y + 5\\ 3x = y + 7 $$ You see that last equation?

OpenStudy (ybarrap):

Add -7 to both sides. You will have the variable \(y\) alone on one side. Take this equation for \(y\) and substitute it into the 1st equation. You will then have one equation with just the variable \(x\). If you get this far you've almost mastered the technique of "substitution." Let me know if you want more help.

OpenStudy (countryalltheway):

thank u man

OpenStudy (ybarrap):

You're welcome
