OpenStudy (romantic_ch3micals):

Can someone simplify this? Medal (-5y + 3)(2y + 5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-10y + 15

OpenStudy (romantic_ch3micals):

...um not quite

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

you can break this into two parts :) What (-5y + 3) (2y + 5) really means is -5y (2y + 5) + 3(2y + 5) = ? Expand and then collect like terms ^_^

OpenStudy (romantic_ch3micals):

Yeah, i got that so far...but...-10y^2 - 19y + 15

OpenStudy (romantic_ch3micals):

is that right?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

yes that is correct!

OpenStudy (romantic_ch3micals):

Yay! Thanks :)

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

no probs ^_^

OpenStudy (romantic_ch3micals):

Hey, i got one more. Do you mind helping me?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

i can try :)

OpenStudy (romantic_ch3micals):

Alright, Simplify using FOIL (3x - 4)(6x - 2)

OpenStudy (romantic_ch3micals):

@butterflydreamer

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

do you know what FOIL means?

OpenStudy (romantic_ch3micals):

First, Out, In, Last It's the order you should...um...do that. Idk how to explain.

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

yeah basically it's firsts, outsides, insides and lasts. So you want to start with F. So multiply the first terms together.
